Referring back to class Wed the 10th

The Question was asked Why do definitions have the bold faced numbers?
It is because they are showing the synomnyms for the main entry. They also show the part of speech. For example 1 and 2 are nouns but 3 and 4 are verb based definitions. That is why the numbers succede. I think or that is the jist of what I got reading the front of the dictionary?

your entry refers to the numbering of dictionary definition entries. Different dictionaries number the entries differently; Merriam-Webster's New Collegiate, for example, gives the entries in chronological order, with the oldest meaning given first. In cases of two meanings with roughly equivalent age, the more usual meaning is given first. This seems to be pretty much the standard order, although others exist.
