Pondering, Mondays class

Since I have been working on this project for drawing class I have been noticing the strangest things. Well maybe not strange but just more aware of my surroundings. Everywhere I seem to go I notice the trees... yes I know that may sound weird but it is just something that I have been working on with the song strong tower. I have noticed their construction, how their leaves may be changing and the idea that they all have character. No tree to me is the same. I mean one may have a owls nest another may not. I also have started to think of how my work is related to the theories talked about in Wednesdays class. I have been thinking a lot about how PACS is in my work now. I am doing plenty of experimentation. I am creating many pieces that seem unfinished to me but I have come to a conclusion that that is the way that I like to work. Work on many things at once when painting and then eventually getting them to a "finished" state. I think this is good but why can't I just finish something instead of moving on to the next thing and the next thing after that. I have no clue why all of a sudden all these thoughts have come to mind while I have been just sitting with the confused sludge that we created at the beginning of class. Am I finally realizing something? Finally being able to "sturr the pot" so to speak? I have no idea but it just seems strange why couldn't these ideas come before the paper?? or even before that????

Mondays Class add on...
Okey I am going to come clean... I like someone yes I do.(grining ear to ear) Infact recently I have been pondering on what I should tell him.I have been this way for awhile and fianlly have the guts to say it. I know he has some liking of me because in our conversations he has said I am one of the people he enjoys talkig to. Also after class I have also the strangest idea put into my head I think it my ego or id talking dunno which get those confused. What would happen if he or I were just able to lay a big one on me or me on him (sound bad but I mean a kiss) Is that the ego talking? Then my super ego is telling me no its not right its the gentlmans job to woo the female not the other way around. I dont know. or is it the Id? that does that, well anyway. I dunno how wierd or strange sounding that just sounded but I thought I might relate something to class. Oh and this must not get out because I will be duly embarrised. (sorry sp brain lapse) I know its written in the blog but who reads this?

Oh I asked in class about the eye and the pyramid relating to the king? am I justified in saying so?? or is that compelty different subject?

Observations I have made

Recently I have made an observation that requires something to be said because I am not the only one who has noticed. It comes across as rude and igonrat. Dot get me wronge here I may sound hypocritical, calus or mean I dont care i have just had enoght with the bs that is going on. For example whenever someone says hello it is polite to say hello and acknowledge that they have made your presence known. By not doing this you come across to me as being rude. When someone says hi just say hi back. Just get our differences out of the way and just treat each other like were "friends" eventhough we are not. I am not the only person who has noticed this so why dont you just get what ever is stuck up in you out and become less abrasive. I know I sound abrasive right now but I have the right to be. What is done is done... that cant be fixed but why dont we just move on. Were not in high school anymore so cut it out.

Another obsevation that I have noticed is during critiques. Some people get to say alot about pieces of work and others say nothing at all. It seems like alwas the same people critquing and saying things. I don't know why this is bother some more now actually to be honest it FRUSTRATING not getting feed back. We are all here to collaborate and get input but when in critues we just seem to keep our mouths shut. Isnt the prupose to talk about eache atothers work no matter if it is a friend or foe. Or if you are going to hurt their feelings or not. The person getting hurt needs to grow a bit of a skin it part of life hearing things you dont want to hear. Let me ask this How do you feel when it comes to your artwork and its always the same people talking about it or when your the one "on the chopping block" so to speak.. How do you feel when no one talks at all? Do you feel frustrated? Thirsty for some imput... I certainly do so speak up...!!!! Input in my opinion helps a person grow and helps the other grow because you verbalize what you see and gets you t produce criticim in a way that is productive to a person. I have just been pondering this for weeks on end and I think it is about time I should say something because it is always silent when talking in critique not just on my work but on others works and it is always the same people talking about the work. I have many more rants but I think due to the subject matter they are best not to put them here because of the subject matter is not sutiable for this particular blog. entry atleast. I would like to dumb down like I dumbed down the first half of this blog another rant but I dont know how to do that without taking out alot of the juice. Well like I said in my last entry I should leave this place and get on to other things. before I go to Lebanon tonight eeks...!!!

Strong Tower

So I have been trying to desipher the song Strong Tower by Newsboys for a visual essay project. I have come up with that the song means in so many terms that "god is there whenever you need him, the song talks about his attributes how he wont blow over in a strong wind, how he will lead a helping hand when times get rough. I dont know why but trees and roots popped into my mind for some strange un beknown reason while I was heading to my doctors appointment thursday afternoon. I don't know if it was just me reading into the song too much or what so since I have this visual essay thing I thought it would be approprite to have trees as my theme. But in the song the theme seem to be God himself I think.... What do you think the meaning of the song is???

I was thinking of some metophors for each verse but I have no clue on what to do???? I have sat with this changing my poem and changing my drawings. Whelp I am going to scoot on out of here. I had plans to stay home but then I realized I wont get my computer work done at home due to the conflict of interests. It seems like at the moment there needs to be a sign up sheet or something blocking out the time for the computer now and days.

Wednesdays...class?

In class Wednesday night the question came about...How can we telll or tap into peoples emotions? or can we share the same feelings and the same time? Something to that efftect. In wanting to answer in class but not wanting to be insensitive to a fellow classmate and a friend I wanted to not say in class what I am going to say in this blog entry. I have been thinking about this alot... after the class especially Jung because he has to be my favorite phsycologist we share some of the same points of view where as Freud I really think that is it really necessary to base everything off of sex...
Now back to the idea of do we share the same feelings? I think we do to some extent share the same feelings. They may not happen at the same time but we do at some point mourn a loss. We may encounter the same feeling as one person to the next sucha as we ma or may not miss them when the pass on. Majority of us probably will miss them. We all show emotions differently there are the mopy sort, one who cooks fore everyone, those who are seem to be happy but are really sad, and those who cry whenever they see pictures or hear the name of the person who has passed. I also thought of a mass level of mourning or emotional state... September 11 where our fear was heightened and our feelings for those lost also was publicically the same. Another example would be when Princess Diana passed, Mother Theresa and Pope John Pauls passings all seemed to bring about a public mourning. I remember seeing Elton John singing on the telivision while my mother sat with tears in her eyes. I don't know if the mourning seemed to be Worldly because of their social status' but it seemed that people mourning gave these people reverence while mourning such as taking in account for their "goodness" that they did and what they did for other people and how humble they were before they died. I think we all at some point are affected by some sort of event which causes us to know or have a sense of what one is going through. Some events such as physcological problesm taht are chemical imbalances whe can see the product but we may not neccesarly feel what they are feeling such as Bipolar and Depression. We may not know how they feel because it is mainly internal and condensed to that person we just see the result of their disorder. I know probably thinking now hat if feeling are internal how can they be seen?


In the same class we were also talkng about the id in relation to art work. In how things can be stated as falic or not. Such as the obelisk thaat si met to have a flaic meaning to it. It got me thinking if there are any falicies in my work. I dont intentially put them in but if they were put there unconciously? My work is now strictly unrepresentational but one person may be able to find something falic in it with the drips and drabs? One piece I did definately stood out in my mind which is now noted as the scary painting by many people. It may be cosidered falic with all the fetus's plastered over it people with pins stuck through thier abdombens and people seemingly drowning and a painted nusse and other images that seem to result in falicies and underlying states of mind. Which to me when I did the painting it did not occur to me until after the fact that it could be deemed as a dark side... I honestly don't know what prompted me to do the piece but now that I look at it I want to get rid of it! I would like to stick to my happy organic patterns!!

AH I HATE WHEN THIS HAPPENS!!!

So I have been attempting to work on this paper that is due for class wednesday. I just seems that I am having a severe case of mental block I don't know what it is if I need to clear other projects first that are bothering me or what. Well I have cleared them and I am still having meltal block. It seems more so that others usually I can handle it and get over it. But it just seems that I am just writing one or two sentances that make no cohernece to even what is going on for the paper then I will leave and then come back because after the two sentence I can just there starting at my notes... I have no idea how many times they have been read over and over. I know that I must be comprehending something if I am writing something down but should it take this long to write a paper a whole two days of only writing a few sentances down every couple of hours. I should be able to bung the thing out in about four hours but this is getting rediculous? why? Its frustrating... I dont want to do anything else until the paper gets done due to the fact that its priority for one. I dont know... I just don't know anymore. My family has seen me struggle with this I don't know why I try to vacate myself of all distrations because i thought that was it. but no. I still sit for hour hour and a half trying to formulate sentances. this is grueling to me a paper like this for me should not take this long.....
Do you have any stuggestions on what could be done to alleviate this??? When you have been working on it on and off since friday and all have is two sencences????

Class where 2 questions...

What part of art is expression of feelings? Is the self which is express through art wholely emotional? What other aspects of the self are experessed through art? What then dow we conclude to the self? waht is non self? whichis is lager self or non self?

I feel that everything about art is some form of experssion. Art would not be here if we did not express ourselves. The self is not whooly emotional because some of our movement and actions are unconciously done. Maybe I dont understand what self is complely to fully answer this question what what other aspects...? My understanding of the self is that it had to do with someones lobido and where it is als a persons internal state. Same goes for the other questions following.

*No, No Philosophy is a term that I am really sturggling with in how to link them to ACS. But otherwise I do understand the others or the gist of the atleast.

What is the self?
Like I said I am not sure I completly know what the self is ... Something about the persons internal drive to do something?
I am assuming both until further exxplainiton of sel I dont think it would be wise for me to define self.

Art Collaboration, Inner outer world

Yes artists can collborate on art by getting together to talk about art itself way it is made the qualit of the work and the possible science and philophies on behind the work. Getting a group of artists together to read on one specific artists then talking abou them or do a broad term such as beausty then work on the same type of idea that is a way to collaborate with other artists. Artists can cllaborate also by getting two or three of them togeter to work on a piece of work and bring ideas into it or possibly by passing a piece of art work along and cahnging something and handling and giving it back when something has changed then that original artists can move it in another direction whether drawing or painting.

Are PACS in the outer world? are they in the self? are they some how btwn the self and the outer world? If so how could they be suspended? Is there and interface btwen them.

I am not quite sure on what is meant by the self or the outer world? In order to answer this question. Could it please be explained?

Three Actions

This is going back while three weeks I think. Where the question was asked about three actions to consider and how they are broken down in philosophy art craft and science.

First Action
Botanty- The study of plants and other characteristics...
Men and women both look or observe things differently. For instance in botany a man may just look at the plant and be able to identify the class and species of that specific plant. They may not take in account for how pretty it may be or what colors would look nice in a yard to compliment the other various colors in a yard. (sorry this may seem like ramble). Where a female might take great care in noticing how beautiful the plant is constructed not only with naming and identifying the object but the aesthetic value of the pant itself. There is an art in physically being able to identify plants by looks and genre. Craft is involved as well. if your are looking r a specific plant lets say jewel weed or dutch mans britches you have to know what time of year they may be out or in bloom where they usually like to grow. Such as dense vegatation or little vegatation. Also i take s craft in memorizing the species and genre and knowing them. It takes training the brain to recognize the plant so you can name the plant at the same time. Science plays a major role in botany because science is what produced the plant in the first place. The process of them germination is also a key factor in science. Philosophy you can read and think about histories of certain plants if it has healing values or cleansing values to them. I don't know how else I could explain Botany and Philosophy?

Second Action
Construction Work
Men and womn do it differnetly because of their physical strength and stature. A woman might need more help in lifingt heavy blocks of concrete due to her phyical ablility to lift something. A male would probably need less help in lfiting becaue they are physically able to withstand lifting heavier things than women. Unless they are into body building... I guess they would not have a problem in lifting things. Philosophy ? I have no clue on how to put it into terms of Consturction work maybe there is not an option to put it in. Art and Craft coneside with each other because craft relates to the product so when a building is finished then all the material that went inot producing it is then seen. Also another way to bserve it the people doing the lifing or measuring take great care in making sure everything is accurate so that the builing or house dos not collapes or materials go to waste. Science plays a factor in this where the use of precision meaurements, some of the chemicals used need time to dry and that happens to fall under science because it is using outside elements to helpf with the reaction. Science is also what helps in keep things bound together.

Third Action
Riding Bike.
Men and women ride bike about the same and the mechanical aspects of the bike are the same. The bikes are made differently to support their height. Women and Men seem to ride bike for different purposes. Men seem to ride bike for more competitive reasons such as bike jumping or racing. Although there are some women who are competative in riding bike. Most seem to do it for leisure or to relieve bodily stresses. Riding Bike is an art as well as a craft because before someone can ride there has to be an artists or craftsperson to come up with the style of the bike whether mountion or leisure riding. It is also an art because it takes some talent to be able to multi task in peddling, keeping your center in the middle making sure to have the proper posture while riding or after the consequence of poor posture would be evident. Being able to not fall to one side is also an art. (I have done this and re adujusted my gears on the bike) Males seem to want to do more off road type of riding than females. Genrally speaking I hear of men talking about biking more than females. Biking is also a craft in without having the people to weld the frame together and think of the bike with round tires not oval we would not have the bike today. Science is also involved the technology is always changing for the bike lighter frame no breaks only breaks for back peddle and so on. How does philosophy go into riding bike?

Fourth
Writing

Men and women go about writing differently. Some women have large open letters which take up the whold line. some have small cursive slants that just seem to flow from the pencil others seem to be more aburpt. Men sometimes eem to write more darker and heavier than women. Some also seem to have sloppy chicken scratch like writing. Some females do too. Some also have typewriter like handwriting. Some females also have chickscratch like writing they also seem like they have bigger writing that touchs line to line. Ther is an art in hand writing also a craft look at calligraphy and Japanese handwriting. All of it is very beautiful. Nicely constructed lines where there is a point to a line width shape and structure of the line thickness. There is a science to it as well because you have to stategically place the curves to make it look like a letter. The way the pressure is put to let the letter be created. Lastly philosophy after the writing is done people could wirte therirr thoughts about it such as poetry which is the product of writing. I think there si more to it that that but in order maybe more explaination of philosphy?
Which one would be better for my paper or non of them or some sort of comparision?

A Firefighter's Story

Once there was a young girl who was afriad of the fire seirens. She was so afraid that she burst into tears everytime. One day her friend asked her why are you crying? She told her that she thought that every time there were seirens the fire people were going out and setting the fire's.
That's why she burst into tears every time. ( This is a story I heard last week by one of my friends friends.)

Her logic is true some firefighters do go round setting fires so her logic to some extent is true. Also they are the first one on the scene of the fire so that is also true. I don't know if it is out of bordeom but they have been in the news as arsonists right?

I know this has nothing to do with philosophy art craft and science. Well maybe it does I don't know. I figured I would post something since I have been lacking in getting posts up here. I like to write them out first then post so be forwarded I will be having a blogging ferenzy sometime this week where I will be putting up 3 or 4 posts.
Well Off to lose all sense of direction and probably get lost on my way down to Baltimore.

Beauty, Philosophy, Art, Craft, Science

As I said befoe how does philosophy, art, craft, science relate to beauty? I have been pondering what is beauty? Since we recieved that question in our mail box last week. I have answered it to some extent but since it is such a vague term it is a tough decision to pin point one distinct definition. I am thinking in these terms from reading on defitintions this would be an example of a Lexical definition. There are so many differnt things beauty can e described as.
Beauty can be described as simple as a single mark or a drip down a page. Or more complex terms a landscape from baroque times or the transendentalist movement. Beausty is such a broad tem that it probably cannot be defined just as a single atmospheric term. I always think that nature is always the up most beautiful because it happens naturally without any disturbances. The idea also that beasuty can be descibed as chemical reactions because they ca happen naturally without people's interferance. I myself have been toying with the idea that something has left and has been felt. The beauty of a footprint for example tells a whole story about a shoe or the way a person walks, That is beaustiful in itself. The idea also that beauty can be descibed as a chemical reaction because it just happens whether we push it along or not. Looking at Andy Goldsworthy's work in comparision to what may be coming up in my work he uses natural materials that are found in nature. (wow thats clucky but whatever) My work is beginning to allude to the same materials but used differnently than what andy uses. His Philosophies is what I am drawn too mainly in reading I came across the fact that he has an idea that he seems to take on and then he pursues it. He does not know what he is going to use until he goes out into the field to create his work. The idea that something has left its presence has also been an idea that I have seen in his work whre he takes trees that have fallen and put them between rocks that is something that makes a statement also it is beautiful in how these objects that you find in nature that most of us take for granted are used in art. He mentions something about how he likes the idea of decay and how that is something that intersts him. I think decay is also beautiful because of the so many stages that something goes through before it is dust. It is a bit gross but decay is a natural process whether we want to say it or not.
Philosophy, Art, Craft and Science can be brought up inot this by categorizing or generalizing the broad term beauty. Beauty can be considered as a craft because it needs to be looked after or maintianed and it takes great skill in keeping it up. For example a runway model had to make sure her body image stays appealing to the public. She already has what god has given her but it needs nurishment to stay healthy. whether the use of skin products, make up and other things to keep the beauty maintained. In nature it is differnet nature automatically cleanses itself by the food chain. Things die off such as a plant which then fertalizes the ground leaving seeds those seeds then grow the next season when the climate and conditions are right. Beauty can be decscibed as a scientific term by the fact that I myself consider beauty to be a naturally occuring event that may need some aid in the up keep. It also chemically occurs on its own if its in your genes then beauty is there. No offense to anyone reading this but and example would be. the ugly baby syndome vs the beautiful baby. some people may consider some features of a new born child such as excessive wrinkles to be ugly instead of beautiful. Beauty to me also is the natural effect that somthing eminates off of itself.
Philosophy and beauty people can thik or converse on how something is beautiful or how it got its features. Art and beauty are realted in the way that beauty itself is presented to a viewer. Such as a simple drip or higlight in the clouds. It can merly be a fleck of something not very intracate or something that is so complicated the beauty of how complex it is beautiful itself.
